The Apothecary Chest

This little chest was a piece built for my father-in-law. He needed a place to store his watches and this is the design we came up with. Each drawer can comfortably hold two watches. This design inspired the larger 3 x 5 Apothecary Chest (shown below) and the much larger 3 x 7 Apothecary Cabinet.

The box is made entirely of solid sapele, save for the drawer boxes which are maple. The drawers are constructed using a half-blind lock joint which is both sturdy and nice looking. The base has four legs that each have a rounded taper. The skirts have an ornate curvature that gives this piece an older, traditional look. The chest is finished with three coats of danish oil.

The larger 3 x 5 chest below was a custom order based on the original 3 x 3 chest and is made of solid walnut and ash. I do make these on made-to-order basis; contact me if you are interested in something similar.

This little chest is made of sapele and soft maple. The drawers are joined using a double dado or half blind lock joint. Overall the dimensions are about 14" wide, 18" tall, and 6" deep. The box was made to hold watches and each drawer can hold two watches on soft cushion.
